About us
A little history, new developments
With nearly 25 years' experience of supporting aspiring translators, both in the UK and worldwide, our Translator Training will help you to enhance your translation skills and identify areas you need to develop. Whether you are planning a career change, seeking greater professional recognition, or just want to test your existing skills against a professional benchmark, our aim is to help you achieve your goal.
Founded by Susanne James Associates in 1996, our first programme called Home Study Course preparing candidates for the CIOL's Diploma in Translation, attracted a steadily growing number of students internationally. In response to increasing demand for this flexible way of gaining qualifications, we later added introductory and follow-up courses to the original concept.
With translation tuition available to people irrespective of where they live, what they do for a living and their time available for study, our programme continues to evolve in light of changing technology. Renamed Translator Training to better reflect its purpose, our programme continues to attract growing numbers of aspiring translators worldwide. They value our dedicated and sympathetic tutoring, one-to-one support, our tutors' clear and constructive feedback and, above all, their much enhanced success rate in translation examinations.
We deliver flexible, practice-oriented training underpinned by the latest industry developments and research, ensuring our courses are up-to-date and relevant to the demands of professional translating practice as well as of leading qualifications such as the DipTrans.
Your translating success need not stop there. With life-long learning and CPD now a requirement for most professionals, we offer opportunities beyond the formal examination. Former students regularly come back to us with more specific requirements, such as advice on submitting a portfolio of translations to a potential client or agency, questions about branching out into a specialised field, or support in entering for a literary translation competition. In such cases, we can arrange a tailored mentoring programme for specific needs. And we regularly and successfully prepare candidates of other translation examinations, such as the ITI Translation Assessment, the ATA certification exam in the US and the Australian NAATI accreditation test.
